Silence at Dartmouth
I find it unfortunate that Dartmouth “postponed” a visiting lecturer, Dr Alice Rothchild, who had been invited to campus by college faculty and Geisel medical faculty. She was to give a talk later this month about “Maternal-child health impact of the war on Gaza” (“Police arrest 90 at protest”; May 3). Rothchild is a Jewish doctor with deep knowledge and experience from medical visits to Gaza over many years, and hearing from her about the fallout of the war on Gaza children should concern us all. The future of so many people, not just voiceless Gazans, is at stake.
It is also troubling to read that a college spokesperson attributed the postponement to changes in Rothchild’s schedule, when it seems clear the college initiated it. We all need to hear from more voices and be listening for true stories, uncomfortable as they may be.

5/16 at Dartmouth College: met with students on the grass in front of library at the Brave Space. I did not take photos of students for their own personal safety.
5/19 full house at the First Baptist Church where Nora Lester Murad and I discussed our Toolkit for Educators and Librarians who are falsely accused of antisemitism for teaching about Palestine. We did 2 breakout sessions where folks talked openly about their challenges, and brainstormed strategies to deal with current repressive environment. Nora and I are eager to have these conversations in person and virtually https://idainthemiddle.com/teaching-resources/toolkit-to-defend-k-12-educators-librarians-against-false-accusations-of-antisemitism/
5/19 met with students and their families at the Worker's Circle shule to discuss my middle grade novel, Old Enough to Know. Kids were great, engaged, eager to talk about the book, about bullying, how it feels to be forced to leave your home, basic post World War 1 history with Britain and France dividing up the Middle East, the partition of Palestine, how to write a book. My favorite questions: Why don't you look like the photo on the book? Where are the real books? I said that any kid who writes a book review or a letter to the characters in the book or a poem and sends it to me, will be posted on the website. One girl sat down and write a poem!
3 More College Leaders to Face Congress Over Antisemitism Claims
3 more college leaders to face McCarthyesque grilling by Republican congresspeople over accusations of antisemitism, while congress ignores prevalent bigotry against Arabs in general and Palestinians in particular.
Anti-Defamation League Ramps Up Lobbying To Promote Controversial Definition of Antisemitism
The Anti Defamation League is not our friend. Cloaked in the language of civil rights and defense of Jews, they have spent record amounts on lobbying in recent years, including on bills opponents say are meant to punish criticism of Israel and target Jewish peace and Palestinian rights groups.
OCTOBER 7 SURVIVORS SUE CAMPUS PROTESTERS, SAY STUDENTS ARE “HAMAS’S PROPAGANDA DIVISION”
MORE EFFORTS TO SILENCE SUPPORTERS OF PALESTINE.
Four lawsuits alleging Hamas ties against Students for Justice in Palestine, the AP, UNRWA, and a cryptocurrency exchange share many of the same plaintiffs.
there was a big standout outside the Harvard graduation on Thursday as well as action (flags/speeches/walkout) inside. Some creative activist(s) put this alternative program together and passed it out widely:
